Drivers in Mount Gambier can enjoy a smoother and safer drive thanks to the completion of four upgraded roundabouts in the regional city.<\/p>\n
The four upgraded roundabouts are along Jubilee Highway West (Princes Highway) at O’Leary Road, Suttontown Road, Wehl Street North and Penola Road (Riddoch Highway).<\/p>\n
Sections of old pavement from all four roundabouts were replaced with new asphalt to improve the road surface quality, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable ride for motorists.<\/p>\n
Ramps on the roundabouts were also upgraded to better assist pedestrians crossing the road.<\/p>\n
The roundabout upgrades are aiming to improve the safety and traffic efficiency for local residents accessing local businesses, as well as drivers of heavy vehicles travelling along the Princes Highway through Mount Gambier.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the Federal Government was proud to be partnering with the South Australian Government to deliver the infrastructure that Mount Gambier needs, and that includes investing in these upgraded four roundabouts.<\/p>\n
“This major investment ensures Mount Gambier has the traffic infrastructure it needs to more safely and efficiently assist motorists travelling around the regional city,\u201d Minister King said.<\/p>\n
“Our government is working closely with the South Australian Government to deliver meaningful projects, ensuring our planning and investment comes together to provide the best outcomes for the commuters and community of Mount Gambier.”<\/p>\n
This project has supported approximately 20 full-time jobs during construction.<\/p>\n
The upgrades are part of the $57 million Princes Highway Corridor Pavement Works Project, which is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($45.6 million) and the South Australian Government ($11.4 million).<\/p>\n
All works under the project have contributed to South Australia\u2019s regional economic growth while improving accessibility and community connectivity.<\/p>\n
South Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Tom Koutsantonis said it was great to see the work along these roundabouts completed, to improve safety and traffic flow through Mount Gambier for locals, as well as tourists visiting the town and heavy vehicle drivers travelling along the Princes Highway.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know these works have caused delays and detours during the construction period, and I want to thank everyone in the local community for their patience while they were completed,\u201d Minister Koutsantonis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud to be investing in critical transport infrastructure across the state that is benefitting the many South Australians living and working in our regions.\u201d<\/p>\n
