{"id":10703,"date":"2024-09-17T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=10703"},"modified":"2024-09-11T15:05:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T05:05:05","slug":"new-faces-join-the-den","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/new-faces-join-the-den\/","title":{"rendered":"New faces join the den"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lions Club of Mount Gambier has welcomed two new members with a track record in contributing to clubs and the community interstate.<\/p>\n<p>Retired couple Peter and Dianne Glanz moved to Mount Gambier two months ago from Bass about 110 km south east of Melbourne and were keen to resume their involvement with the service organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Dianne was a Lion before Peter also joined in 2004 and together they were active in several clubs for about 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe joined Lions because of the things that Lions get involved with,\u201d Dianne said of the organisation whose motto is \u2018we serve.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The couple also contributed to Lions at cabinet level, with Peter spending four years as 201V3 Treasurer, while Dianne helped with administration and newsletter production.<\/p>\n<p>They decided to take a break from Lions from about 2014 and went on to serve on the committee of the San Remo Probus Club where Dianne was secretary.<\/p>\n<p>Both draw on skills and experience gained in their former working lives.<\/p>\n<p>Peter has a financial background including experience with a bank and auditor, nine years with Victoria University, and then running his own, franchised bookkeeping business.<\/p>\n<p>Dianne has experience in finance and administration including seven years with a book publisher.<\/p>\n<p>She is interested in helping with committee work but is yet to decide which Lions Club of Mount Gambier projects she will become involved with.<\/p>\n<p>Peter is keen to join the team that carries out children\u2019s vision screening as part of the Lions Eye Health Project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeter will probably do other things as they come along, just as I will,\u201d Dianne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m eager to get involved,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to welcome Peter and Dianne as new members,\u201d said President Martin Vercoe who inducted the couple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey bring many skills and talents to our club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Lions Club of Mount Gambier meets on the second and fourth Tuesday each month: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lionsclubmountgambier.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.lionsclubmountgambier.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lions Club of Mount Gambier has welcomed two new members with a track record in contributing to clubs and the community interstate.
