{"id":10797,"date":"2024-09-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-28T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=10797"},"modified":"2024-09-25T14:22:34","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T04:22:34","slug":"cooking-up-a-storm-for-cancer-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/cooking-up-a-storm-for-cancer-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooking up a storm for cancer cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Member for Barker Tony Pasin has hosted his ninth Big Aussie BBQ, once again raising significant funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), with more $1000 added to the coffers this year.<\/p>\n<p>This brings the cumulative amount raised to well over $9000, a testament to the ongoing generosity and community spirit of the people of Mount Gambier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2016, we\u2019ve been holding the Big Aussie BBQ each September to support our local Prostate Cancer Support Group and the PCFA in raising awareness and funds,\u201d Mr Pasin said.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal MP was first inspired to start this event after attending the PCFA\u2019s Big Aussie Barbie at Parliament House, Canberra, in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was at that BBQ that I first became acutely aware of how prevalent prostate cancer is \u2013 it&#8217;s the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men,\u201d he said. \u201cAbout 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and over 3,000 lives are lost each year to this disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the hard work of the local Prostate Cancer Support Group, we&#8217;ve been able to raise thousands of dollars for the PCFA.
