People experiencing hardship in Mount Gambier were recently invited for hair and beauty sessions or to enjoy a cinema screening through experiences organised by country agency ac.care .<\/p>\n

A group of 10 women received free treatments from hair and beauty students at TAFE SA\u2019s Mount Gambier campus, while a crowd of 45 recently attended a screening of Twisters at Oatmill Cinema Complex.<\/p>\n

The separate experiences were organised by ac.care Limestone Coast homelessness service manager Kelly McGuinness to bring joy and connection to people experiencing personal challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great day out at TAFE for the women who took part and they were given wonderful treatment by the students there,\u201d Ms McGuinness said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had one person who was so grateful for their experience, they shared a picture of themselves on social media \u2013 something they said they normally didn\u2019t feel comfortable doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great example of how something small we may get to experience regularly can really make an impact on someone who doesn\u2019t have that luxury.\u201d<\/p>\n

ac.care\u2019s Limestone Coast Homelessness Service team hosted a special morning screening of Twisters during National Homelessness Week, with Oatmill Cinema subsidising costs and community donations to ac.care also helping to fund the experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a line-up almost out the door of invited guests who came along to enjoy a movie, popcorn and drink,\u201d Ms McGuinness said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had people saying they couldn\u2019t remember the last time they went to the cinema so it was nice to know we could provide some joy and entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great for our staff to also be involved and get to share in that enjoyment with the people they support.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the experiences go beyond the specialised support offered by ac.care, Ms McGuinness said they played an important role in building a sense of community and bringing positivity into people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe work closely with the people who need support to address the challenges they are experiencing and to work with them to create the safety and stability they need to thrive,\u201d Ms McGuinness said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of these interactions happen in our service delivery, as well as in our day-to-day functions at the community centre, so it was great to move outside of those spaces and to offer something to bring some joy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese experiences are often not a priority or out of reach for people facing hardship so we are thankful that we have the community support to be able to provide these opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

TENISON WOODS COLLEGE JUNIOR PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE<\/p>\n

The Tenison Woods College Junior School Performing Arts program recently had the privilege of taking their audience on a \u2018trip around the world\u2019, showcasing the remarkable talents of students from Years 2 to 6. The night was filled with vibrant performances that highlighted the creativity and dedication of our young artists.<\/p>\n

The event featured a variety of acts, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Spark Choir, Ignite Choir, and Blaze Choir<\/p>\n

\u2022 Students from the Year 5 band program and the Year 6 band<\/p>\n

\u2022 The energetic Storm Drum Corps<\/p>\n

\u2022 Delightful performances by Year 3 dancers<\/p>\n

\u2022 4D\u2019s captivating demonstration of choral speaking<\/p>\n

\u2022 Engaging drama pieces by Year 6 Flames<\/p>\n

\u2022 Solo performances on piano by Filumena Ochudzawa and James Williamson<\/p>\n

\u2022 Dramatic monologues by Tyelan Dennis, Luke Olivier and Taya Creek<\/p>\n

The performance also featured guest artists from Tenison Woods College Showband, including talented Middle and Senior students. Their performances added an extra layer of excitement to the event, showcasing the strong collaborative spirit and diverse talents within the school community.<\/p>\n
