{"id":10855,"date":"2024-10-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-01T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=10855"},"modified":"2024-09-25T14:47:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T04:47:47","slug":"local-author-to-unveil-adventure-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/local-author-to-unveil-adventure-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Local author to unveil adventure story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mount Gambier local Wayne Richardson will launch his novel Thomases\u2019 Costumery at Mount Gambier Library on Thursday 24 October at 7:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Partially set in Mount Gambier across multiple time periods, the book explores the complex relationships between its characters as they navigate time travel, hidden secrets, and the weight of legacy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thomases\u2019 Costumery is an action filled, humorous, and thought-provoking adventure story and it&#8217;s always a privilege to be able to support local talent,\u201d Manager Library and Community Development Georgina Davison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe book masterfully balances the tension between duty and desire, all while injecting humour and heart into the journey. We can&#8217;t wait to see how it inspires and captivates its audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomases\u2019 Costumery begins in 2103, when the Thomas brothers&#8217; invention\u2014a cabinet that creates perfect replicas of historical costumes\u2014has an unexpected feature: it also transports people back in time. When a customer is accidentally sent to 1876, the brothers cover up the incident and hide the machine.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to 2117, Detective David Thomas and his partner Jen, investigating a burglary, uncover the long-hidden cabinet. During a struggle, the burglars escape into the machine, aiming to alter history. David follows them, only to be stranded in first-century Galilee. Now, David must find a way back, stop the criminals, and prevent a paradox that could erase his family from history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you were going to think about Thomases\u2019 Costumery as a mash up of movies turned into a book it would be somewhat like combining an Indiana Jones adventure with Back to the Future but using the cast of the iconic Australian film The Castle to fill many of the leading roles,\u201d Wayne said.<\/p>\n<p>After a long career as a forestry research scientist and later as a career firefighter, Wayne retired in 2021 to focus on his two passions: writing and volunteering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith years of experience writing scientific papers and training firefighters, I now find great joy in crafting thought-provoking adventure stories and hope readers will enjoy the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All profits from book sales will go to the Compton CFS Brigade to assist in the purchase of equipment and facility upgrades to the station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s only fair that proceeds from the book go back to a volunteer brigade who already contribute so much to others without asking anything in return,\u201d Wayne said.<\/p>\n<p>This is a free event with supper and books available for sale and signing on the night.
