{"id":11047,"date":"2024-10-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=11047"},"modified":"2024-10-22T11:03:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T00:03:03","slug":"local-author-unveils-new-picture-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/local-author-unveils-new-picture-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Local author unveils new picture book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mount Gambier Library will host a family event with local author Kate Loftus for the launch of her picture book \u2018The Big Yellow Ball\u2019 on Sunday, October 27, at 11am.<\/p>\n<p>Kate will read the story of \u2018The Big Yellow Ball\u2019 and offer some simple drama activities related to the storyline, followed by a craft activity for children as well as book sales and signing.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Gambier Library Team Leader Children\u2019s and Youth Services Erin Jones said they were excited to launch Kate\u2019s book \u2018The Big Yellow Ball\u2019 to young readers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a delightful story filled with fun and colourful illustrations that will engage children and families of all ages,\u201d Erin said.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by a family holiday to the beach the story follows characters Milly, Molly and Mum who meet some new friends and together they play with a big yellow ball. One warm summer\u2019s day, a disaster happens &#8211; the ball is thrown and lands amongst the waves and begins heading out to see, leaving readers wondering how Milly will get her ball back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is always special when local authors share their work with the community, and we are excited to be a part of that journey,\u201d Erin said.<\/p>\n<p>Author Kate Loftus has been a teacher for 20 years and has always been interested in storytelling through dance, drama and a good book.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to share stories about positive interactions through pictures and stories,\u201d Kate said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2023 I joined the Mixed Writers Group at Mount Gambier Library and reading my own stories to this group gave me the confidence to take the steps towards publishing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The illustrator Debraj has created a brightly coloured interpretation of the book making this story an easy-to-read and colourful book for young children.<\/p>\n<p>Bookings for this event can be made through Mount Gambier Library on (08) 8721 2540 or online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au\/library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au\/library<\/a> under \u2018Programs and Events\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mount Gambier Library will host a family event with local author Kate Loftus for the launch of her picture book \u2018The Big Yellow Ball\u2019 on Sunday, October 27, at 11am.
