The Lions Club of Blue Lake City Lioness are tackling diabetes awareness as they step up to the challenge of the Lions lap the Map for Diabetes, focussing on World Diabetes Day on November 14.<\/p>\n
The connection of nationwide Lions Clubs to diabetes comes through the organisation\u2019s medical Alert Dog program \u2013 dogs who work with diabetic patients.<\/p>\n
Each medical alert puppy costs around $38,000 and is trained to assist diabetes patients, alerting them when there are changes in their blood glucose level.<\/p>\n
Lap the Map is an annual event, inaugurated in 2020, that sees Lions Clubs across Australia hosting family friendly walks to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the diabetes epidemic, with the aim being to \u2018Lap the Map\u2019 \u2013 walk a combined total of kilometres nationwide that exceeds the circumference of Australia.<\/p>\n
The Lions Club of Blue Lake City Lioness will be meeting at the Limestone Coast Pantry at 9am to collect donations and encourage people to walk the Rail Trail as part of the Lap the Map campaign.<\/p>\n
You can also count your steps at an alternative, more convenient time and add it to the club\u2019s official total.<\/p>\n
