Member for Barker Tony Pasin MP has welcomed the funding announcement to upgrade the sporting facilities at Gall Park in Kingston.<\/p>\n
The project at Gall Park includes building four new multipurpose courts and a shared community clubhouse with amenities and LED lighting.<\/p>\n
Mr Pasin said the Federal Government grant that will enable the $2million project progress is fantastic news for the Kingston region.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m passionate about working with the community to help deliver local infrastructure, particularly sporting facilities because of the vitally important role grassroots sport plays in regional communities,\u201d Mr Pasin said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI threw my full support behind local Play Our Way applications in Barker because it is imperative that facilities are functional and fit for purpose, particularly for projects that reduce barriers to participation in sport for women and girls.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor too long, too many female club members have had to contend with sub-standard infrastructure and facilities, particularly in the regions. We desperately need to address this inequality because strong and inclusive grassroots sporting clubs help strengthen regional communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to funding being received to get work at Gall Park underway as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gall Park management Committee chair John Kay and committee member Kristen Wulks welcomed the cash injection for the crucial project.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very excited to receive news that our application for funding under the Federal Government\u2019s Play Our Way program has been successful and are grateful for the opportunity it provides to improve the community sporting facilities in Kingston for women and girls,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur community has been trying for some time to find the means to advance the amenities and courts at Gall Park used mainly for netball, basketball and for general school sporting use.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe current courts are in poor condition, present a risk to the safety and wellbeing of players, and do not include changing facilities or easily accessible toilet amenities. As such, they are not at a standard required to meet current needs for female participation and do nothing to encourage increased involvement and participation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Play Our Way program, with its goal to provide opportunities for women and girls to access, participate, and remain involved in sport and physical activity, was exactly in line with our needs and we are extremely grateful to be successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis funding is for $2 million and will go towards modern, accessible multipurpose clubrooms with toilets and changing facilities, upgraded sports courts, and LED lighting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank everyone who has lent support to this project including Tony, the Kingston District Council, Kingston Community School, LCLGA, Netball SA, KNTNA, Kingston Saints Netball Club and all the sporting and user groups at Gall Park.
