The District Council of Grant unveiled the final Mount Gambier Regional Airport Master Plan for 2025 to 2035, marking a significant milestone in the progression of the region\u2019s aviation industry.<\/p>\n
The final Master Plan was presented at the recent ordinary council meeting and subsequently endorsed for action, commencing in the new year, following extensive consultation.<\/p>\n
District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston acknowledged the contributions of community members and aviation stakeholders in the development of the document.<\/p>\n
\u201cFeedback received during the consultation process confirmed our Master Plan balances the needs for sustainable regional aviation and aspirations of our community,\u201d she said. \u201cWe appreciate the efforts of those who engaged and participated in this process.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also extend our thanks to members of the Aviator\u2019s Jury whose expertise and perspectives over the past 12 months were extremely valuable in the initial development of the Master Plan,\u201d<\/p>\n
The Aviator\u2019s Jury combined airport tenants, people will a passion for aviation and aviation specialists to consider the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Airport, future projects and the facility\u2019s overall direction across two workshops, alongside elected members and council staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cTogether, with the collaboration of aviation professionals and our wider community, we are confident that this Master Plan will guide the growth and development of our Airport over the next decade,\u201d Mayor Boston said.<\/p>\n
The Mount Gambier Regional Airport Master Plan for 2025 to 2035 describes a variety of short-term, long-term and advocacy projects for Council to action over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
District Council of Grant chief executive officer Darryl Whicker said the key projects stem from council\u2019s core strategic document, the Strategic Plan 2024 \u2013 2034.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Master Plan is our roadmap designed to ensure the continual improvement, sustainability, accountability and growth of the Airport and regional aviation,\u201d Mr Whicker said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe projects developed complement and help achieve our five goals under Community, Economy, Environment, Infrastructure and Council. These projects will also ensure that the Airport remains a key asset for regional travel and connectivity, while supporting tourism and economic development well into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mount Gambier Regional Airport Master Plan 2025 \u2013 2035 describes key short-term projects to achieve in the next one to five years including, but not limited to, a small playground, increasing renewable energy systems, carpark extension and investment prospectus.<\/p>\n
Further long-term projects will be worked towards over the next five to 10 years including various runway extensions and resurfacing, development of an onsite commercial precinct and public toilet refurbishment.<\/p>\n
The District Council of Grant will also advocate for projects such as an airport history and display trial, flying school and increased tourism throughout the Limestone Coast in partnership with key stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough strategic planning and ongoing stakeholder engagement we are committed to delivering a high-quality Airport that meets environmental, safety and operational standards,\u201d Mr Whicker said.<\/p>\n
