Community groups, businesses and individuals are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get involved in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, March 2.<\/p>\n

Council is calling on the community to help make this the biggest event of its kind, as the initiative celebrates 35 years of improving and conserving the environment, one piece of litter at a time.<\/p>\n

In 2023\/2024 Mount Gambier residents sent more than 5500 tonnes of waste to Caroline Landfill with Clean Up Australia Day just one method of helping keep our local environment tidy.<\/p>\n

City of Mount Gambier environmental sustainability business partner Aaron Izzard said while the parks and gardens team work hard to keep the town looking its best, there\u2019s still a significant amount of litter that ends up in hard-to-reach places\u2014tucked away in reserves, hidden under bushes, and scattered across less-visited areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy dedicating just one hour of your time, you can make a meaningful impact in reducing litter and protecting our local environment,\u201d Mr Izzard said.<\/p>\n

Residents and local businesses are encouraged to either join one of the registered clean-up events or start their own. To register interest in leading a clean-up effort in a local reserve, visit the Clean Up Australia Day website.<\/p>\n

Council will arrange for the collection of all rubbish and recycling bags on the day.<\/p>\n
