AS Saturday\u2019s competition was the first for the month it was Monthly Medal time. The Barn was sponsoring the event as part of The Barn Men\u2019s Club Championship, which had 120 golfers take to the course.<\/p>\n
A Grade (-9.0 \u2013 10.0) saw David Pick (6) being victorious with a 4 under par nett 68. Pick (pictured) was on fire early, having three birdies and six pars on the front nine for a 3 under the card 33 off the stick.<\/p>\n
Pick\u2019s back nine had five pars, three bogies and an unfortunate double bogie 6 on the par 4 twelfth.<\/p>\n
Second spot went to Sam Letizia (6) who finished with a nett 69 after firing a 37 on the front nine followed by 38 off the stick on the back.<\/p>\n
B Grade (11.0 \u2013 16.0) had Mike Griffiths on top matching Pick\u2019s nett 68. Griffiths also started well with a net 33 on the front after having four pars, four bogies, a birdie and a double bogey 6 on the par 4 ninth.<\/p>\n
His back nine was very similar with two pars, five bogies, a birdie on the par 5 fifteenth, but again finishing the nine with a double bogey 6 on the last hole.<\/p>\n
Runner up in B Grade was Mike Atwell (14) with a nett 71.<\/p>\n
Peter Buckingham (17) took out C Grade (17.0 \u2013 45.0) with a nett 69. He started strongly with a birdie on the par 5 first hole and followed withtwo pars and six bogies to be four under his handicap after is outward nine.<\/p>\n
A par on the par 3 tenth has his round set, which was followed by six bogies to be sitting at 5 under his handicap hitting off the seventeenth.<\/p>\n
This hole is the hardest on the Mount Gambier Golf Club course, and Buckingham wrote a triple bogey 7 on his card as he headed to the eighteenth, which he parred.<\/p>\n
Tyler Fiegert (21) took out the runners up spot in C Grade with a 2 under nett 70.<\/p>\n
As with all Monthly Medals, the player with the best score gets to compete in the Barney Larkin Medal of Medals next year.<\/p>\n
Mike Griffiths edged David Pick out for the honour via a countback to join January\u2019s winner Chris Gabriel, and February\u2019s winner Riley Parsons.<\/p>\n
With some tricky pin placements and some of the holes set to their maximum extremities, it was surprising to only have two golfers join the Rogues gallery, by scoring 10 or more on a single hole. CW (25) found trouble on the tough par 4 fourteenth hole and JD (36) managed the feat on the first, fourteenth and fifteenth holes \u2013 there is always next week gentlemen.<\/p>\n
Golfers needed to have scored -76 or better on a countback to collect one of the 36 balls handed out. Nearest to the pins went to Rob McIntyre (8) on the eighth hole and Jeff Olafsen (6) on the sixteenth.<\/p>\n
