THE Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery\u2019s Ibis Rising annual art prize will have a new category for artworks this year.<\/p>\n

Artists are encouraged to enter a work featuring the Ibis in any medium, which may include painting, sculpture, a greeting card, photograph or embroidery. The entries can be of any material such as papier-mache or collage.<\/p>\n

This new category will run alongside the standard 2D, 3D or Photography sections which can be of any subject.<\/p>\n

The gallery board decided to celebrate the Ibis in the art prize as it is the gallery mascot. The sculpture entitled Ibis Rising by Heather Ellis at the front of the gallery in Ormerod St was created in 2005. The gallery logo also features an Ibis.<\/p>\n

Ibis are common to the local wetlands, both the Australian White Ibis and the Straw-Necked Ibis.<\/p>\n

The art prize also includes sections for students \u2013 Primary up to Year 3, Years 4 to 6 and High school. These entries can be in any medium and are judged together.<\/p>\n

Generous sponsorship has been offered for the various categories including the South East Cultural Trust, Infinity Centre and other supporters of the arts in Naracoorte.<\/p>\n

Bec Greening, the Gallery Executive officer encourages anyone who hasn\u2019t entered before, to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe competition is suited to all skill levels and you don\u2019t have to be an established artist to enter,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Entry forms and details can be found on the gallery website \u2013 naracoorteartgallery.com.au<\/a> They are also available from the gallery or by email to naracoortegallery@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n
