{"id":13456,"date":"2025-04-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=13456"},"modified":"2025-04-09T14:50:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T04:50:10","slug":"community-garden-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/community-garden-upgrade\/","title":{"rendered":"Community garden upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO new poly tunnels have been successfully installed at the Portland Community Garden, providing a significant boost to local vegetable production and volunteer engagement.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative was made possible with the support of a $5,500 grant from the United Way Glenelg Lewis Court Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Designed to extend the growing season and provide year-round access to fresh produce, the new tunnels double the garden\u2019s existing capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The project has brought together a diverse group of volunteers, from experienced growers to enthusiastic first-timers, with everyone contributing to the construction and planting.<\/p>\n<p>United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Carr said supporting grassroots food security initiatives was an important part of the organisation\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to support the Portland Community Garden with funding from our Lewis Court Fund,\u201d Ms Carr said. \u201cThis project not only puts more fresh food on local tables, but it also creates a space for people to connect, learn, and contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of their community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The garden already plays a valuable role in supporting community health and inclusion.
