{"id":14082,"date":"2025-05-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=14082"},"modified":"2025-05-21T14:55:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T04:55:46","slug":"new-council-hits-the-ground-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/new-council-hits-the-ground-running\/","title":{"rendered":"New council hits the ground running"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Wattle Range Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has officially launched into 2025 with fresh energy, new faces, and a shared commitment to amplify the voices of young people across the region.<\/p>\n<p>With a record number of expressions of interest, (19 young people from across the Wattle Range Council area) the demand to be involved in shaping the future of our region has never been stronger. After a competitive selection process, 11 passionate and engaged youth were appointed as this year\u2019s YAC representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Des Noll praised the enthusiasm of this year\u2019s youth council:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe calibre of applicants continues to be outstanding. It\u2019s a real testament to the commitment and passion of our young people. They\u2019re not just the leaders of tomorrow\u2014they\u2019re changemakers today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The YAC kicked off the year with the \u201cAll Voices Youth Tour\u201d in Mt Gambier on Sunday, April 13, where members had the opportunity to engage with other young leaders across the state. The event featured guest speaker Amber Brock-Fabel\u2014founder of the SA Youth Forum and the 2025 Young Australian of the Year\u2014who inspired attendees to ensure regional voices are heard at all levels of government.<\/p>\n<p>The launch continued with the annual \u2018Youth Round Table\u2019 Dinner on Monday, April 14 hosted at Java Cafe in Millicent. The evening brought together new YAC members, past participants, Council executives, and community champions to celebrate youth leadership. Linda Carter-Shepherd an inspirational local shared stories of doing incredible things for the community and gave the YAC members some practical tips for stepping outside their comfort zones.<\/p>\n<p>Community Development Manager for the Wattle Range Council, Nicole Croser highlighted the strength and purpose of this year\u2019s group:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Council is full of energy, fresh ideas, and a real desire to give back. It\u2019s not just about being at the table\u2014it\u2019s about having a voice and using it to make our communities better. We are so proud to have representation from right across the Wattle Range area this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young people involved in the Youth Advisory Council gain invaluable experience including leadership development, public speaking, financial literacy, and community engagement, with opportunities to attend Council meetings and shape programs and events for local youth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many benefits to joining the Youth Advisory Council,\u201d says Ms Croser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage young people aged 12\u201324 to stay connected and get involved in future years. You don\u2019t need to have any prior experience to join, just a desire to learn and engage with your community.
