AT THE end of last month, 160 Tenison Woods College Year 11 and 12 students danced the night away at the City Hall in the Main Corner Complex for their annual Charity Ball, raising funds for communities in Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n
Tenison Woods College students did their part by paying $50 for a ticket and while total funds raised are still being tallied, the student-led auction and student donations raised a further $1500 of much-needed funds.<\/p>\n
The funds will be used for infrastructure, educational programs, and daily operation costs for communities in need in Timor-Leste.<\/p>\n
Tenison Woods College is currently abuzz with fundraising initiatives as they shift their focus to Timor-Leste for Term 2 fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n
Students are looking forward to the whole school Charity Day occurring in a couple of weeks\u2019 time as wthey attempt to continue the strong efforts of last year\u2019s record-breaking day.<\/p>\n
This is all with anticipation for the immersion that takes place in July, providing students the opportunity to assist communities and make a difference abroad.<\/p>\n
Located just an hour\u2019s flight from Darwin, Timor Leste is vastly different to what they are familiar with in the Limestone Coast.<\/p>\n
During the two week trip, money raised will be distributed to the Bakhita Centre, the Dominican Orphanage and Tenison\u2019s sister school in Hatolia, San Francisco Xavier College.<\/p>\n
A donation is also provided to the high school in Letefoho and to Klibur Domin, a charitable home operated by the Ryder Cheshire foundation, which has strong links to Mount Gambier.<\/p>\n
Bernadette Fisher has facilitated the Timor-Leste relationship for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n
Ahead of this year\u2019s annual immersion she said students and staff involved are counting down the days until they visit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team have been working hard to raise money to gift to the communities we will visit, including the BBQ at Sports Day, volunteering their time to usher at the recent Generations In Jazz Event, and look forward to planning stalls and events for the upcoming Charity Day,\u201d Mrs Fisher said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
