THE second of the Junior Girls Power of Her basketball clinics was conducted at the Ice House last Wednesday, with more than 40 participants thoroughly enjoying the two sessions.<\/p>\n
The success of the clinics evolved from the mentoring efforts of the Mount Gambier Pioneers players and coaches and the manner in which girls from across the region whole heartedly participated with friends to gain an understanding of the basics of basketball and a boost in self-confidence.<\/p>\n
Pioneers\u2019 players who coached during the sessions are Haliegh Reinoehl, Jayda Jansen, Chloe Hildebrand, Catherine MacGregor, Maddy Timms, Mackenzie Burke, Titus Robinson, Austin Shelley, Akech Alir, Jack Haggett and Joe Palmer with women\u2019s head coach Matt Sutton also on hand.<\/p>\n
For several girls, these clinics were their first basketball experience and will possibly lead to them becoming involved in local competitions.<\/p>\n
The Power of Her clinics were initiated by Basketball Mount Gambier, in partnership with the Pioneers, have been made possible through the support of State Government grants, which are aimed to increase the numbers of girls playing sport of all denominations, providing more opportunities for development and hence keep them playing for longer periods.<\/p>\n
A third of these Power of Her Clinics is planned for mid-October early in the coming 25\/26 Summer Season.<\/p>\n
