{"id":15230,"date":"2025-08-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=15230"},"modified":"2025-08-07T10:39:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T00:39:54","slug":"discovering-culture-and-cosmos-in-the-limestone-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/discovering-culture-and-cosmos-in-the-limestone-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Discovering culture and cosmos in the Limestone Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Limestone Coast Walking the Seasons night walk<\/strong> offered the community a unique opportunity to connect with nature and culture under the clear starry sky during a special night-time edition of the program.<\/p>\n<p><em>Walking the Seasons<\/em> community walks hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/cultural-connections-in-the-great-outdoors\/\">Limestone Coast Landscape Board<\/a> in collaboration with Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation, was part of an ongoing initiative to introduce the community to the region\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/cultural-connections-in-the-great-outdoors\/\">First Nations Seasonal Calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/discovering-the-connection-between-country-culture\/\">Walking the Seasons community walks<\/a> program provides guided walks led by local First Nations Elders and aims to deepen the understanding of local landscapes through cultural and environmental observations.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Curnow, Astronomy Lecturer at the Adelaide Planetarium, is recognised as one of the world\u2019s leading authorities on Australian Aboriginal night sky knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>As a special guest at this event Paul was able to share sky Country knowledge from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Limestone Coast Landscape Board Educator Mel Holtz said it was a phenomenal turnout at this event. \u201cThe cultural insights and astronomy knowledge provided a deeper connection to Country,\u201d Mel said. \u201cIt is fantastic to see so many community members learning and connecting with a First Nations lens through the landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By participating in a <strong>Limestone Coast Walking the Seasons night walk<\/strong>, attendees gain valuable cultural knowledge and insights into the seasonal changes of our local landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Walking the Seasons participant Annelise said the weather was perfect; the sky was clear and bright and they could see all the stars. \u201cThe night sky stories were amazing and Uncle Doug as usual was a wealth of information.
