BRINGING new life to a vacant commercial space, Space and Place is an ambitious artist residency that unites six local artists in a two week, shared studio experience.<\/p>\n
More than just a workspace, this transformed venue, at 30 Margaret Street, Mount Gambier, becomes a vibrant cultural hub\u2014open to the public, buzzing with creativity, and grounded in community connection.<\/p>\n
The six participating artists are Ruth Stephenson, Pariya Ziakas, Anthony Hamilton, Kirsten Johnston, Meghan Amoroso and Sally O\u2019Connor.<\/p>\n
At its core, Space and Place is about fostering belonging.<\/p>\n
By encouraging open dialogue between artists and audiences, the residency nurtures a socially connected environment where people from all walks of life can engage with contemporary artistic practice.<\/p>\n
The open studio format invites the public into the creative process itself\u2014dissolving the traditional boundaries between artist and observer and cultivating a sense of shared cultural identity.<\/p>\n
Anchored in the physical and cultural fabric of the city, the project celebrates place by reimagining a commercial site as a dynamic artistic venue. Artists participating in the Space and Place residency are working on-site at the dedicated studio space until Friday, August 22.<\/p>\n
During this period, the activated space will be open to visitors Monday to Friday, offering the public an opportunity to engage with the artists and gain insight into their creative processes.<\/p>\n
Please note that the studio will not be open to the public on weekends.<\/p>\n
The residency opening will culminate in a group exhibition featuring works developed during the program.<\/p>\n
This exhibition will take place on Friday. August 29, showcasing the diverse interpretations and responses to the residency\u2019s themes by the participating artists.<\/p>\n
