COLOUR, connection and community are on the menu as the District Council of Grant welcomes the return of its popular Positive Ageing Luncheons.<\/p>\n
Held annually as part of South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well, the luncheons provide residents aged 55 years and above a chance to catch up with friends, meet new people and enjoy a meal together.<\/p>\n
Mayor Kylie Boston said the luncheons are more than just a shared meal, they are a chance to strengthen community connections.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Positive Ageing Luncheons are about encouraging our older residents to stay connected and have meaningful conversations about what ageing well looks like in our community,\u201d Mayor Boston said. \u201cAgeing well is something we can all support through maintaining friendships, staying active and looking after our health.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is proud to provide these opportunities to recognises the valuable contributions our senior residents and support them living happy and meaningful lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year, four luncheons will be held in local townships:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Port MacDonnell – Tuesday 30 September 2025 at the Victoria Hotel;<\/p>\n \u2022 Carpenter Rocks – Wednesday 1 October 2025 at the Rocks Tavern;<\/p>\n \u2022 Mount Schank – Thursday 2 October 2025 at The Bellum Hotel; and<\/p>\n \u2022 Tarpeena – Friday 3 October 2025 at the Pines Hotel.<\/p>\n Attendees are invited to dress in their brightest colours, enjoy a game of bingo and share in prize giveaways before sitting down for a meal.<\/p>\n Chief executive officer Darryl Whicker said he hopes to see many residents fill local eateries to capacity.<\/p>\n \u201cThese luncheons provide an excellent opportunity for our older population to connect with each other while also supporting local businesses,\u201d Mr Whicker said. \u201cThey also allow council to recognise the significant contributions our seniors make to our community.<\/p>\n \u201cCouncil values the contributions of our older population and looks forward to continuing to support and celebrate them into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n Donovans local and regular luncheon attendee Sheryl Teigesser reiterated that the events are a great way to bring people together.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s a great idea having the Positive Ageing Luncheons. A chance to meet people of similar age and make new friends. To bring communities together for a fun afternoon and enjoy a meal together,\u201d Mrs Teigesser said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe council are wonderful in providing this opportunity with many grateful for a nice hot meal also.\u201d<\/p>\n Bookings are essential to attend any of this year\u2019s Positive Ageing Luncheons.
