The program will take place throughout the month of October and aims to celebrate the vital contributions older adults make to our community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program highlights include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Library Online Resource Workshops in Casterton, Heywood and Portland on dates between 2-15 October, offering hands-on guidance in accessing free digital resources such movies, documentaries, tv shows, e-books, using Kanopy, Hoopla, BorrowBox, Ancestry and Trove.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Art, Tea and Treasures sessions between 9-23 October, where Council\u2019s Cultural Collection Coordinator and Library staff will visit local groups in Dartmoor, Digby, Portland, Casterton and Merino with historical artefacts and photographs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A free lively cabaret performance by The Stiletto Groove at Portland Civic Hall on Monday 13 October, complete with a complimentary lunch and bus service for regional attendees.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 These Hands Exhibition at the Portland Library throughout October, showcasing portraits and stories of Glenelg seniors that challenge ageism and celebrate lifelong contributions to community life.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Free entry to the Maritime Discovery Centre for Seniors Card holders throughout October.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said Seniors Month was a time to recognise the invaluable role seniors play in shaping the local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur seniors are the heart of our towns \u2013 they are volunteers, carers, storytellers and leaders,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis October, we\u2019re inviting everyone to join us in celebrating their achievements, sharing their stories, and enjoying the many free and inclusive events on offer across the Shire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s dancing to the hits of the 60s and 70s, discovering your family history at your local library or simply enjoying a cuppa and a chat, there\u2019s something for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For further information on Senior\u2019s Month, and all local event details, visit the Glenelg Libraries and Portland Arts Centre websites or phone Glenelg Libraries on 5522 2265 or the Portland Arts Centre on 5522 2263.<\/p>\n<p>For attendees to The Stiletto Groove performance, a complimentary bus service will run to and from Casterton via Heywood, Merino and Digby for those that need assistance with travel. Seats are limited and should be booked alongside tickets for the performance.<\/p>\n<p>The Glenelg Shire Seniors Month program complements the broader Victorian Seniors Festival, a statewide festival that runs annually from 1 to 31 October.
