WITH some members venturing to compete in other events, a smaller than usual field of 89 players contested a par round sponsored by Nutrien Ag at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.<\/p>\n
With a final score of +5 Peter Jones (19) topped the leaderboard and took out C Grade (17.0 – 45.0).<\/p>\n
Jones round only had one blemish on his outward nine, with a pickup on the par 5 seventh hole. Apart from this, Jones only had six bogies and two pars to turn at +1.<\/p>\n
His consistency continued by having another five bogies and four pars on the back to add a further +4 to his tally.<\/p>\n
Just one hole behind was Graham Robinson (24) who finished with +4.<\/p>\n
Like Jones, Robinson turned with a score of +1, before adding +3 on the back.<\/p>\n
A Grader (-9.0 – 10.0) Bailey Letizia (7) shared Jones good score of +5 to easily win A Grade.<\/p>\n
Letizia also shared the same nine spits of +1 and +4 on the back as Jones had, after shooting 36 shots off the stick to play even to the card.<\/p>\n
Retiring captain Russell Lewis (10) was runner with +2. B Grader (11.0 – 16.0) was won by Garry McCormack with a score of +4.<\/p>\n
Unlike most other winners, McCormack scored better on the front nine with +3 at the turn, before adding +1 on the back.<\/p>\n
With three players all finishing on +3, a countback handed the runners up spot to David Boyce (15) from Michael Griffiths (16) and Paul Kenny (16).<\/p>\n
Kenny would like to replay his back nine, after turning with a score of +5 before losing two holes on the way home.<\/p>\n
Twenty-seven additional balls were handed out for a score of \u20131 or better on a countback, there were also 14 balls won for birdies on the par 3s.<\/p>\n
John Shirley (14) was the Pro Shot winner on the eighth hole collecting five balls and Nic Clayton (7) won the sixteenth.<\/p>\n
OCTOBER 16 RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n A healthy field of 97 players participated in the Thursday stableford competition last week.<\/p>\n It was A Grade player Shane Brook (3) who found good form to post the best score of the day with 42 points.<\/p>\n Brook didn\u2019t need any of his handicap to post an even to the card 36 off the stick for 19 points on the front.<\/p>\n This consisted of two bogies, five pars and two birdies.<\/p>\n He then turned his attention to improving this on the back nine by firing three birdies and six pars to be 3 under the card off the stick and add a further 23 points.<\/p>\n Brook\u2019s efforts were rewarded with a $90 Pro Shop voucher.<\/p>\n The runners up spot and the $45 Pro Shop voucher needed a countback to split three players all finishing on 40 points.<\/p>\n It was Bill Russon (42) with splits of 18 points on the front and 22 on the back that pipped David Cameron (28) with an even spread of 20 points on both nine taking out five balls and Roger Davis (9) with 21 points on the front followed by 19 on the back nine to win four balls.<\/p>\n Another countback had Peter Miller (14) win three balls from Graham Allen (21) claiming two balls with both finishing on 39 points.<\/p>\n Another 13 balls were won for a score of 35 or better on a countback, while 10 players received a bonus birdie ball.<\/p>\n Kym Sutherland (13) took out the nearest to the pin on the eighth hole and Graeme Armstrong (19) won the sixteenth hole.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" WITH some members venturing to compete in other events, a smaller than usual field of 89 players contested a par round sponsored by Nutrien Ag at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.
