THE Limestone Coast\u2019s leading education, training and research precinct at Wireless Road West has been named \u2018Budinya Precinct Mount Gambier\u2019.<\/p>\n
Precinct leader Peter Gandolfi said the name Budinya, the Boandik word for learning, encapsulates all the activities at the precinct and strengthens its identity.<\/p>\n
\u201cOriginally the precinct was exclusively used by TAFE SA,\u201d Mr Gandolfi said. \u201cIn addition to TAFE SA, today there are other institutions at the site delivering valuable education, training and research such as Adelaide University and LITA Training along with Flinders University delivering courses this year at the precinct for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Next year the Limestone Coast Technical College and the Forestry Centre of Excellence, both of which are currently being built, will be operational at the precinct.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very exciting time for the precinct and its steering committee felt it was appropriate to give the site a name that embraced all stakeholders,\u201d Mr Gandolfi said.<\/p>\n
Mr Gandolfi said Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation was engaged to identify an appropriate name for the precinct.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy reflecting local cultural heritage, a local Aboriginal name strengthens ties with the community and enhances the precinct’s identity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Branding has been developed with the precinct\u2019s logo representing an artistic adaption of part of the topography of Mount Gambier\u2019s Blue Lake and new signage is currently being installed at the precinct.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a very exciting time for the precinct with more than 100 builders on site in recent weeks working on the new Technical College, the Forestry Centre of Excellence and the expansion of TAFE SA workshops,\u201d Mr Gandolfi said. \u201cThe development of the precinct is focused on strengthening our local capabilities in developing a skilled workforce and initiatives to grow our local economy.<\/p>\n
