KARATTA Wines Robe will present a new exhibition by South Australian artist Fiona Pattinson this summer, marking a significant homecoming for the internationally experienced painter, who has spent more than two decades living and working abroad.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will be officially opened by Sigrid Thornton AO, one of Australia\u2019s most recognised stage and screen actors and a long-time advocate for the arts.<\/p>\n
That opening celebration will be held at Karatta Wines on Friday, December 6, at 5pm, allowing visitors to meet the artist, view the exhibition, and enjoy the summer atmosphere.<\/p>\n
Now based in the Limestone Coast, Fiona brings a body of work shaped by a life spent between Sydney, Los Angeles, and the coastal landscapes of South Australia.<\/p>\n
Her practice centres on place, connection and simplicity, working with soft colour fields, horizon lines and expansive light to create a sense of calm, stillness and what she describes as \u2018magic moments\u2019 found in nature.<\/p>\n
This exhibition at Karatta Wines will feature 15\u201320 new works, along with smaller pieces and limited-edition prints.<\/p>\n
Fiona will also exhibit alongside sculptor Greg Johns, who\u2019s ecological, landscape-driven practice adds further depth to the show.<\/p>\n
Fiona Pattinson’s artistic practice is the culmination of a remarkable life, blending a rigorous professional background with a deep, intuitive connection to nature and the sea.<\/p>\n
Originally graduating with a Law degree from the University of Adelaide, Fiona’s early career included working abroad as an assistant to the Premier of Antigua.<\/p>\n
She rerouted her focus back to the arts, studying at the National Art School in Sydney before embarking on a successful career as a stylist for film and television.<\/p>\n
Moving to the United States in the early 1990s, Fiona established her painting career through solo exhibitions in California, including at Louis Stern Fine Arts and Sovak Gallery. Her years living and traveling internationally shaped a global perspective.<\/p>\n
After 23 years abroad, she returned to Australia, choosing Beachport as her base.<\/p>\n
Her creative philosophy is grounded in staying close to nature as a “receptive” way of working.<\/p>\n
Her mixed-media canvases often incorporate very old maritime sail canvas, adding historical texture to her explorations of the eternal themes found in the nexus of earth, sky, and sea.<\/p>\n
Securing this exhibition is a coup for Karatta Wines, which as been supporting the local art community for close to a decade.<\/p>\n
Owner Peg Wood\u2019s long standing passion for the arts has seen the gallery evolve, including a purpose-built back gallery where Fiona\u2019s exhibition will be held.<\/p>\n
Karatta Wines is also a key supporter of the Southern Ocean Art Prize, hosting the finalist exhibition and providing a platform for artists across the Limestone Coast.<\/p>\n
Wine Room & Gallery Manager Adam Gould said art has been part of Karatta for close to a decade and welcoming an artist like Fiona back to Robe feels special.<\/p>\n

Fiona was excited to show her work in her \u2018new\u2019 home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve lived in many places around the world, but I always manage to find my village \u2013 the people and landscapes that feel like home,\u201d Fiona said. \u201cBeachport has given me that in a very natural way. Staying close to the ocean keeps me centred and receptive, and that\u2019s where the work begins for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels right to bring this new collection to Karatta Wines and to share it with a community that understands the landscape that inspires it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exhibition also coincides with the seasonal release of Karatta\u2019s new Coast Candles Chardonnay and The \u2018Intern\u2019 Shiraz, available for tasting at the Wine Room throughout summer.<\/p>\n
