ACCESS to quality childcare is essential to the future strength of the Limestone Coast workforce so Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast (RDALC) is undertaking a region-wide overview of childcare needs to better understand demand, strengthen workforce participation and support long-term regional resilience.<\/p>\n

As families strive to fully participate in the regional economy, ongoing gaps in childcare availability continue to limit both individual opportunity and broader economic growth so this project will build a clear case for increased investment in childcare services and infrastructure, highlighting the economic benefits of targeted action and supporting meaningful community involvement in planning.<\/p>\n

The study builds on the important planning and advocacy already undertaken by councils and the community in the Limestone Coast.<\/p>\n

RDALC CEO Lauren Oxlade said improved childcare access is critical to supporting business growth and sustaining a strong regional workforce.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildcare is not just a family issue, it is a workforce and economic issue,\u201d Ms Oxlade said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy understanding where the pressure points are, we can advocate for the right investment and support long-term community resilience and regional growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The project will support providers to make targeted, place-based decisions about where new or expanded childcare services are most needed, and provide a stronger evidence base to seek Australian Government investment to improve childcare accessibility through the Building Early Education Fund.<\/p>\n

A pilot program in one township will also test community engagement methods to guide future planning.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur role is to put the region first,\u201d Ms Oxlade said. \u201cBy bringing together community, industry and government, we can ensure the Limestone Coast has the right services in place to enable people to participate fully in work and contribute to a thriving regional economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The project commenced in November 2025 with funding from the Office for Early Childhood Development. Findings will be delivered by June 2026.<\/p>\n
