{"id":17064,"date":"2025-12-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=17064"},"modified":"2025-12-10T16:59:53","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T05:59:53","slug":"the-people-have-their-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/the-people-have-their-say\/","title":{"rendered":"The people have their say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE District Council of Grant is delighted to announce the winners of its Art-Ability Exhibition People\u2019s Choice Awards, highlighting and celebrating the diverse talents of people living with disability in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors to the award winning exhibition were invited to vote for their favourite artwork from the 38 pieces on display in The Hangar Gallery at the Mount Gambier Regional Airport.<\/p>\n<p>With more than 400 online and hard copy submissions, three People\u2019s Choice Award winners were determined by the highest number of community votes.<\/p>\n<p>Council\u2019s Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel Presiding Member and Councillor Katherine Greene said it was especially meaningful to present the Awards on the International Day of People with Disability, a day dedicated to recognising the contributions of people with disability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so proud of the efforts of all our participating artists, along with the support from the Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel and Council to deliver such a successful exhibition,\u201d Cr Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to all the winners and to every artist who contributed their art. Your work has brightened the gallery and brought so many people joy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharing a prize pool of $500, the top three winners of the 2025 People\u2019s Choice Award are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ella Castleman for \u2018Curls of Colour\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Levi Kennedy for \u2018Rocking Reindeer\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Quaran Care Day Program for \u2018Floating in the Clouds\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>First place People\u2019s Choice Award winner Ella Castleman explained that her favourite medium is markers and she often draws portraits that celebrate individuality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was scrolling on Pinterest and found [this] photo so I decided to draw them\u2026 I did take a little bit of creative liberty and make her hair look like streamers,\u201d Miss Castleman said.<\/p>\n<p>Ella is still developing her style as an artist while navigating life with ASD, but with her mother\u2019s encouragement she entered the Art-Ability Exhibition to share her work with the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always judge my art. Artists always judge their art more than anybody else around them, they\u2019re always very critical of their own stuff.
