FOR more than 30 years, Deb Castignani has been the cheerful, familiar face at Coles Mount Gambier, known for her genuine care and the way she makes every customer feel valued.<\/p>\n

This Christmas, Deb has been recognised as one of the top three Coles team members nationwide, as voted by her loyal customers.<\/p>\n

A born and bred local, Deb said the community had become a big part of her life, and she takes pride in connecting with customers face to face.<\/p>\n

\u201cIronically, I\u2019m not an outgoing person, but at work I come out of my shell,\u201d Deb said. \u201cBeing friendly, helpful, and having patience are the qualities I think are most important and what I try to be to every customer that comes through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deb was one of 12 of the most popular Coles team members across the country being celebrated this Christmas for putting the \u2018super\u2019 in supermarket with their stellar service, daily dedication and community commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI began my journey with Coles at just 15, encouraged by my mum who dropped me off to my first interview,\u201d Deb said. \u201cThat moment was the start of a 33-year career, and the reason I’ve stayed so long is simple, I love my job.<\/p>\n

\u201cReceiving this recognition and reading the compliments from my customers was my favourite part, it really means a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Customers from South Australia submitted 7650 compliments through TellColes\u2014Coles\u2019 national customer feedback platform where shoppers can recognise outstanding team members.<\/p>\n

Shoppers described Deb as \u2018always cheerful, extra helpful and friendly\u2019 and say she \u2018goes above and beyond\u2019 to brighten their day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love talking to people and being in customer service, I have a daily opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life,\u201d Deb said. \u201cThere\u2019s an older lady who regularly comes in, and I always make sure to put through her groceries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe chat and from experience with my own grandparents, I know that this simple connection can be really important to the elderly.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing someone the community can rely on for a friendly conversation is incredibly rewarding, especially for those who might need it most.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s those moments of genuine connection that have made it so easy to stay, year after year. Knowing I can put a smile on someone\u2019s face motivates me every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coles marked the team members\u2019 achievements with in-store celebrations, presenting each winner with a trophy and keepsake book containing heartfelt customer feedback from the year.<\/p>\n

Coles executive general manager supermarket operations Martin Smithson said the 12 Team Members of Christmas initiative reflected the pride Coles takes in its people.<\/p>\n

“Our team members are the face of Coles, the heart of what we do, and a valued part of communities across Australia,” he said. \u201cThese 12 team members exemplify the very best of customer service and this initiative allows us to celebrate their commitment and show our gratitude. The festive season is the perfect time to do that.”<\/p>\n

Deb was one of two South Australian based employees to make the coveted list.<\/p>\n

“It’s so important to acknowledge customers and connect with them face-to-face, to make them feel valued and seen,\u201d she said. \u201cIt’s nice to be recognised, but I’m really just being me and trying to help the community I love.”<\/p>\n

Coles employs more than 115,000 team members nationally, making it one of the largest employers in the country.<\/p>\n
