UNITED Way Glenelg is delivering a little extra joy to older residents across the Glenelg Shire this Christmas, thanks to the generous support of Ventia and their subcontractors S&S Excavations Pty Ltd, Berry and Whyte Surveyors and Tutt Bryant Hire.<\/p>\n
Each year, United Way Glenelg coordinates Christmas hampers for older community members, offering a meaningful gesture during a time when many feel the pinch of rising living costs. This year, the initiative has received a significant boost, with Ventia and their partners stepping in to help increase the number of hampers from 200 to 260.<\/p>\n
The hampers contain a selection of festive treats and essentials for people who may otherwise go without.<\/p>\n
United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Carr said the support has come at a time when loneliness and isolation are becoming more common.<\/p>\n
\u201cLoneliness and social isolation continue to rise, especially for older people who may have fewer connections than they once did. The cost of living is pushing many to stay home more, reducing opportunities to socialise and feel part of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Carr said small gestures can have a big impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo receive a Christmas hamper is a reminder that someone cares,\u201d she said. \u201cThese small acts of kindness can make a real difference to a person\u2019s wellbeing during what can be a very isolating time of year.<\/p>\n
\u201cFood prices are high, and many older residents are feeling the pressure more than ever.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe extra contribution from Ventia and their subcontractors means we can reach more people with a small box of joy and let them know their community hasn\u2019t forgotten them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Christmas hampers are delivered directly into people\u2019s homes, ensuring they reach those who may otherwise miss out on festive cheer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are incredibly grateful to Winda-Mara, DWECH, Portland District Health, Heywood Rural Health, Dartmoor Bush Nursing, Merino Bush Nursing, Casterton Memorial Hospital, St Vincent de Paul and Life Goods Services & Supports,\u201d Ms Carr said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese organisations do extraordinary work supporting older residents, and their willingness to deliver hampers directly into each home ensures every recipient feels valued.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also thanked Merino Consolidated Primary School for once again writing letters for each resident, and volunteer Helen Westhorpe for her support.<\/p>\n
Ventia project manager David Courtot said supporting the initiative reflects their commitment to the region.<\/p>\n
