{"id":17307,"date":"2026-01-04T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=17307"},"modified":"2025-12-19T00:44:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T13:44:31","slug":"learning-about-the-great-outdoors-in-the-great-outdoors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/learning-about-the-great-outdoors-in-the-great-outdoors\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning about the great outdoors in the great outdoors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 500 students from across the Limestone Coast have taken part in the Walking the Seasons program this year.<\/p>\n<p>The school-based program delivered by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board in collaboration with Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation deepens the understanding of First Nations culture and the importance of caring for Country.<\/p>\n<p>The Walking the Seasons program is inspired by the Limestone Coast First Nations Seasonal Calendar and is an immersive on-Country experience gives students a deeper understanding of our landscape through cultural perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>The Department for Education have supported the program in 2025 with students from a variety of schools involved across the region exploring our local landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Students who participated in the program recently met to celebrate their learnings at the Valley Lake\/Ketla Malpi, sharing their seasonal calendars and reflecting on what they had learned throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Limestone Coast Landscape Board educator Mel Holtz said the sharing of seasonal calendars across schools provided a special opportunity for students and teachers to share their experiences of Walking the Seasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe seasonal calendars that have been created were phenomenal and show the deeper understanding of the landscape that has been observed during the sessions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Limestone Coast Landscape Board is grateful to Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation for working and walking collaboratively to deliver such an inspiring educational program.<\/p>\n<p>Managing Director of Language and Education at Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation Tara Bonney said the best outcome for her was seeing students take part in the Walking the Seasons program and share what they learned and experienced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was fantastic to hear students explain how the program helped them better understand our role in helping Country heal,\u201d Tara said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListening to the next generation talk about their stronger connection to Country, their respect, and their desire to care for our landscape showed how important the program is and why it should continue to grow in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walking the Seasons resources have been developed to support curriculum planning and can be found on the Limestone Coast Landscape Board website <a href=\"http:\/\/lc.landscape.sa.gov.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lc.landscape.sa.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 500 students from across the Limestone Coast have taken part in the Walking the Seasons program this year.
