{"id":17508,"date":"2026-01-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=17508"},"modified":"2026-01-14T16:13:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T05:13:10","slug":"summer-reading-program-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/summer-reading-program-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer reading program launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Mount Gambier Library held the Big Summer Read launch party at Cave Garden\/Thugi last week with approximately 150 children, parents, grandparents and caregivers attending the free community event.<\/p>\n<p>Families had the opportunity to enjoy activities including a performance by local children&#8217;s entertainer Whacky Mac, Little Animal Encounters petting zoo, free sausage sizzle, giant games, craft activities and face painting.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees spent time out in the sunshine while learning more about the Big Summer Read program.<\/p>\n<p>Children\u2019s and Youth Services team leader Erin Jones said it was an incredible start to the school holiday program and the launch of the Big Summer Read for Mount Gambier Library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great to see families come together and enjoy the activities on offer,\u201d Mrs Jones said.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Lynette Martin and CEO Paul Simpson attended the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City of Mount Gambier is really pleased to be able to deliver events that play such an important role in improving the social lives and educational outcomes for our community,&#8221; Mayor Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These free events that allow attendance for our youngest community members without imposing any cost to families are so important.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Big Summer Read is a free summer reading program for children and young people aged 0\u201318.
