WORK will soon begin on the construction of a new undercover outdoor eating area and upgrade of the kiosk block at Naracoorte\u2019s much-loved Swimming Lake.<\/p>\n
The key capital project in Naracoorte Lucindale Council\u2019s budget for the current financial year will ensure the continued enhancement and development of one of the council\u2019s most prized open space assets.<\/p>\n
The new undercover outdoor eating area will be a galvanised steel structure with freestone pillars and it will also be paved with seating.<\/p>\n
The upgrade of the kiosk block will see the existing breezeway between the male changerooms and the kiosk part of the block revamped to allow for a larger and more functional space.<\/p>\n
Additionally, new eave sheets and fascias will be replaced, and minor internal renovations will be undertaken to the kiosk to make the space more user friendly.<\/p>\n
Footpaths will also be modified to improve accessibility from the new undercover outdoor eating area to the upgraded kiosk block.<\/p>\n
The existing tile murals on the block will be protected and retained.<\/p>\n
Local contractors JP & HA Bunnik have been awarded the tender for the $384,254 project.<\/p>\n
Minor internal works are expected to begin shortly followed by larger construction works after the current swimming lake season closes.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to be completed by October, ready for the 2026-2027 swimming lake season.<\/p>\n
The iconic Naracoorte Swimming Lake on Moore Street was opened in 1961 and is a unique, free facility that is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.<\/p>\n
Council manages and maintains the man-made lake, which is open from late November through to the end of March every year.<\/p>\n
Holding nine million litres of water, the huge chlorinated swimming area is a jewel in Naracoorte\u2019s recreation crown.<\/p>\n
The swimming lake has been the focus of numerous upgrades since its opening more than 60 years ago.<\/p>\n
This latest project, captured in the Naracoorte Swimming Lake Masterplan, ensures the lake can continue to grow and improve for community enjoyment for many years to come.<\/p>\n
Local mobile food vans have done a great job keeping lake goers nourished over the current swimming lake season while the kiosk has been closed to allow for preparatory works to be undertaken – including the removal of asbestos – in the lead-up to the completion of the new outdoor eating area and kiosk upgrade.<\/p>\n
