SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Skye Wilson (17), from Port MacDonnell & District Bowling Club, has made remarkable progress in just three years of playing bowls, quickly establishing a reputation for success and promise in the sport.<\/p>\n
Her recent achievements highlight both her talent and dedication, and she continues to be a junior player to watch in the future.<\/p>\n
Selected to represent South Australia, Skye at the Australian Under 18 Championships, Devonport, Tasmania, late last year, Skye competed in both the Triples and Fours events under challenging weather conditions.<\/p>\n
The Fours team experienced mixed results, but the tournament provided valuable experience for all involved.<\/p>\n
In the Triples, Skye played as lead, alongside Mia Baldey (second) and Tahlia Stringer (skipper). The team\u2019s journey included:<\/p>\n
\u2022 A win against Victoria (19\u201315)<\/p>\n
\u2022 A narrow loss to Tasmania (9\u201311)<\/p>\n
\u2022 A strong victory over Queensland (25\u20138)<\/p>\n
\u2022 A close defeat by Western Australia (12\u201315)<\/p>\n
\u2022 A nailbiting win against New South Wales (16\u201315), securing the silver medal<\/p>\n
South Australia celebrated further success with a gold medal in the Girls Singles, silver in the Triples, and a bronze in the Boys Pairs.<\/p>\n
Skye also competed in the Open U\/18 SA Championships, Lockleys Bowling Club earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Representing Port MacDonnell Bowls Club, Skye competed in the singles event.<\/p>\n
After a first round bye, she won convincingly against Serina Doyle (Adelaide Bowls Club) 21\u20137, and then against Gracie Pietersma (Angaston Bowling Club) 21\u20136, advancing to the semi-finals. In a closely contested match, Skye narrowly lost to Megan Carey (Somerton Bowls Club) 20\u201321, missing out on a place in the gold medal match.<\/p>\n
In the bronze medal play-off, Skye faced Tahlia Stringer (Koolunga Bowls Club), with another close result, finishing 18\u201321. Both the semi-final and bronze medal matches were tightly fought and could have gone either way.<\/p>\n
In the open pairs, Skye teamed up with Lachlan Hill (Naracoorte RSL Bowls Club).<\/p>\n
After a first round bye, they lost by a single shot (15\u201316) in their second game but finished strongly with a 22\u20138 win in their final match.<\/p>\n
Despite their efforts, they did not progress to the semi finals, but both players performed admirably and represented their clubs with pride.<\/p>\n
For the open triples, Skye joined forces with Cameron Jamison and Elliott Webster-Brown, both from Modbury Bowls Club.<\/p>\n
With Skye as lead, Elliott as second, and Cameron as skipper, the trio won all three of their games, earning a place in the gold medal match.<\/p>\n
