AUDIENCES in Bordertown will have the rare opportunity to experience the works and worldviews of moving image artists in AGSA Screen: Wavelength at Walkway Gallery from February 13\u201324 April 24.<\/p>\n
Illustrating the medium’s dynamism, Wavelength presents a selection of works of art from the Art Gallery of South Australia\u2019s time-based media collection.<\/p>\n
Wavelength is presented as part of AGSA Screen, a new initiative of the Art Gallery of South Australia and Country Arts SA presented by MML, dedicated to showcasing moving images from AGSA\u2019s significant collection of works by Australian and international artists.<\/p>\n
Wavelength draws on past and contemporary approaches to time-based media, sharing stories from across the world that are connected through the theme of water.<\/p>\n
South Australian Minister for Arts Andrea Michaels said great collections like AGSA\u2019s are to be shared and enjoyed over generations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe partnership between AGSA and Country Arts SA to tour Wavelength regionally will ensure art lovers all over South Australia can be inspired in their hometowns,\u201d Minister Michaels said.<\/p>\n
AGSA Director Jason Smith said for more than a century, the human fascination to explore and understand ourselves and each other through various lenses has seen time-based media develop into one of visual art\u2019s most influential and exciting mediums.<\/p>\n
\u201cWavelength is a wonderful showcase of AGSA\u2019s moving image works that can now be enjoyed by audiences regionally across South Australia,\u201d Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n
Country Arts SA chief executive\/executive director Anthony Peluso said Country Arts SA and AGSA were committed to providing access to visual arts across the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cTogether with AGSA, Country Arts SA\u2019s regional touring program is a celebration of collaboration, providing an incredible artistic and cultural experience, ensuring access for everyone regardless of their postcode,\u201d he said. \u201cNo matter where you live, there\u2019s a place for every story.\u201d<\/p>\n
The theme of water in Wavelength ties back to the importance of water in regional communities, as a crucial resource essential for survival and necessary for agriculture, industry and daily life.<\/p>\n
Water is often a central feature of the natural landscape and is deeply connected to the cultural and spiritual identity of many First Nations communities.<\/p>\n
This regional touring program is made possible through presenting partner MML, whose founder Dr Carol Colburn Grigor is committed to giving back to the community and believes art should be for everyone.<\/p>\n
Having experienced access to regular music programs in her regional school as a young child she credits the \u2018music man\u2019, a yearly educator and visitor to her during her primary school years, with leading her to become a world-class concert pianist with a Master of Musical Arts degree from Yale University School of Music.<\/p>\n
Knowing first-hand how important providing high quality arts experiences is to people regardless of background, MML are excited to be the presenting partner of AGSA Screen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are in themselves the long-lasting pleasure and the spiritual rewards of giving,\u201d Dr Grigor said. \u201cProviding access to visual arts experiences will inspire new talent and support the cultural life of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to regional touring, those across the state can access AGSA\u2019s extensive collection online.<\/p>\n
AGSA is also committed to education outside the classroom knowing that art can inspire, spark curiosity, engage critical thought and reveal different perspectives on the world around us.<\/p>\n
AGSA\u2019s educational program is accessible online to assist teachers across the country, incorporating learning tours, workshops, programs and study resources that encourage experimentation, enable discovery and enhance knowledge and skills for students at all levels.<\/p>\n
They apply to diverse learning areas, from art and design to science, maths, history, languages and more enabling students to experience both in and beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n
Country Arts SA has an extensive history of supporting arts in regional areas of South Australia.<\/p>\n
As part of its suite of programs, Country Arts SA works with 19 regional art galleries through its touring program, supporting and facilitating access to visual arts experiences in regional South Australia.<\/p>\n
