{"id":18113,"date":"2026-03-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=18113"},"modified":"2026-03-05T16:13:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T05:13:24","slug":"local-illustrator-unveils-a-new-childrens-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/local-illustrator-unveils-a-new-childrens-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Local illustrator unveils a new children&#8217;s book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOUNT Gambier Library is inviting local families to celebrate the launch of the third book in the much-loved Easter Bilby\u2019s Friends series.<\/p>\n<p>Just in time for Easter, children&#8217;s author Kristin Martin and local illustrator Bianca Richardson will introduce Belle and Bea\u2019s Beautiful New Home on Sunday, March 22 at 11am.<\/p>\n<p>Belle and Bea\u2019s Beautiful New Home continues the Easter Bilby\u2019s Friends tradition of sharing an important environmental message through exploring how introduced wild rabbits impact native plants and animals.<\/p>\n<p>It shows young readers how they can help care for their environment. In this new adventure, Easter Bilby is taking Belle and Bea to their new home.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the local response to the series including Honey Possum&#8217;s Bush Cafe and Banjo Frog&#8217;s Concert Spectacular, Mount Gambier artist and illustrator Bianca Richardson says the community\u2019s enthusiasm has played an important role in its success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community support we have received for the Easter Bilby\u2019s Friends series has been amazing &#8211; especially with our previous book becoming the top seller at Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier in 2025,\u201d Bianca said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreating these characters is a joy and knowing that they help create awareness on such an important conservation message makes it even more meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Author Kristin Martin was excited to read the new book at the launch in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to show everyone the felt hand puppets I\u2019ve made to match the characters. We\u2019ll be looking for volunteers to use them at the launch &#8211; it will be lots of fun,\u201d Kristin said.<\/p>\n<p>Team leader children\u2019s and youth services Erin Jones said the library team was thrilled to bring this story with a local element to the community, highlighting the value of nurturing imagination, creativity and fostering a love of literacy from an early age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to support local creative talent and celebrate stories that spark imagination, curiosity and a love of reading,\u201d Erin said.<\/p>\n<p>The book launch is a family-friendly event featuring an interactive reading followed by a fun craft activity.<\/p>\n<p>Belle and Bea\u2019s Beautiful New Home will be available for purchase and signing on the day.
