{"id":18249,"date":"2026-03-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=18249"},"modified":"2026-03-11T16:54:47","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T05:54:47","slug":"timber-industry-leaders-take-centre-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/timber-industry-leaders-take-centre-stage\/","title":{"rendered":"Timber industry leaders take centre stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SELL-out crowd gathered to celebrate leadership, mentorship and opportunity across the plantation and wood fibre sector at Australian Bluegum Plantation\u2019s third annual Women in Wood Fibre event, held yesterday as part of International Women\u2019s Day celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders from across the plantation, manufacturing, ports and logistics supply chain joined government and industry representatives for the popular event, which continues to grow in influence and attendance each year.<\/p>\n<p>ABP CEO Darren Shelden said the event highlighted the strong momentum behind building a more inclusive and future-focused industry.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged the event reflected a broader commitment across the plantation sector to \u201crecognise talent, support leadership pathways and strengthen our regional communities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen in Wood Fibre is a statement about the kind of sector we\u2019re building &#8211; one that recognises talent wherever it exists and understands that resilient businesses and strong regional communities are created when women are supported to lead, innovate and influence decisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The event\u2019s keynote address was delivered by filmmaker, farmer and podcaster Leila McDougall, who shared insights on resilience, leadership and backing yourself even when the path forward is uncertain, taking learnings producing the internationally acclaimed film Just a Farmer. Regional broadcaster and advocate for agriculture and regional Australia Kirsten Diprose returned as the event MC.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shelden said women now represent more than 30 per cent of permanent roles at ABP, including senior leadership positions, reflecting a broader trend across the plantation sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose numbers matter, but what matters more are the real pathways behind them. Throughout my career I\u2019ve seen mentorship turn potential into confidence and experience into leadership. When women are supported, when pathways are visible and when mentorship is genuine, momentum builds and the whole sector benefits,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen in Wood Fibre is about leadership, innovation and collective progress.
