THE South Australian Football Commission has announced the appointment of highly respected football administrator and business leader Steven Trigg as the Commission\u2019s new Chair.<\/p>\n
Trigg (pictured right with CEO Darren Chandler) was appointed by the members of the Commission at a meeting immediately following SANFL\u2019s Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n
He replaces The Hon. Rob Kerin who stepped down after serving a maximum of two terms as Chair.<\/p>\n
Currently the Managing Director of South Australian wine company The Randall Wine Group, Trigg\u2019s involvement with SA football spans nearly three decades as a player, coach and administrator.<\/p>\n
Trigg served as a long-time CEO of the Adelaide Football Club from 2002 to 2014 before taking up the same role at Carlton from 2014 to 2017.<\/p>\n
The reliable defender played 129 senior matches for Central District and North Adelaide and coached Sturt Football Club\u2019s League and Reserves side.<\/p>\n
In accepting the appointment, Trigg said he was honoured to lead the Commission twelve months after he joined SA football\u2019s peak governing body.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouth Australian football has shaped so much of my life, professionally and personally. To be entrusted with the leadership of the Commission is a privilege, and I\u2019m committed to strengthening our game at every level\u2014from community footy to the elite pathways.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m incredibly encouraged by everything that\u2019s going so well in the SANFL right now and committed to a future that positions SANFL as the best development and most inclusive league in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis vision goes hand in hand with our commitment to strong, stable clubs and delivering an outstanding, high-quality product on the footy field every week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During his final AGM as Chair, The Hon. Rob Kerin was honoured with League Life Membership for his tremendous service to football in this State.<\/p>\n
A passionate advocate for clubs and volunteers across regional areas of SA, Kerin\u2019s strong connections to country football were fostered by his playing days, and role as Club President, with Crystal Brook Football Club in the State\u2019s mid north.<\/p>\n
The former Premier of South Australia served two terms as SA Football Commission Chair from 2020 to 2026, and prior to that was Community Football League Director from 2014 to 2020.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thank Rob for his long-standing commitment to football and congratulate him on this much deserved recognition, and becoming a League Life Member,\u201d said Trigg on his predecessor.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe will always be held in high regard by the SA football community, including SANFL staff, for his commitment and genuine care.<\/p>\n
\u201cRob\u2019s specific commitment to the continued growth and sustainability of football in South Australia and particularly his impact on football in regional communities is immeasurable.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe started in the role as Chair days before the pandemic struck and I know that his steady leadership and guidance throughout this challenging period was incredibly important for everyone at the time,\u201d said Trigg.<\/p>\n
Brad Busch and Teri Hopkins were also welcomed to the Commission after being elected unopposed on three-year terms.<\/p>\n
Busch previously served as League Director for SANFL Community Football and was a long-time President of the Adelaide Plains Football League. Hopkins is a respected lawyer who has forged a career in public and private practice. She was Vice President of Glenelg Football Club and has served on the Glenelg Board since 2021. Leading adviser in stakeholder management and communications, Nicole Haack, was re-appointed as Commissioner on a three-year term and will continue as Deputy Chair.<\/p>\n
