The City of Mount Gambier hosted the South Australian Small Business Commissioner at the end of last month for an open and insightful conversation with local business operators.<\/p>\n
The event brought together small business owners from across the region to connect directly with the commissioner, exploring challenges and sharing experiences.<\/p>\n
During the event, the commissioner shared how his office supports businesses across the state, including guidance on resolving issues related to leases, contracts, equipment and cash flow, areas that can significantly affect day\u2013to\u2013day operations.<\/p>\n
The commissioner also spoke about his role as an independent voice for small business, operating separately from government departments, and how this enables his office to advocate effectively on behalf of operators.<\/p>\n
Insights from regional communities play an important role in shaping statewide advocacy efforts.<\/p>\n
City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM welcomed South Australian Small Business Commissioner Dan van Holst Pellekaan to Mount Gambier and highlighted the value of direct engagement with regional businesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cSmall businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and it\u2019s essential they have opportunities to speak directly with decision makers who understand the realities of operating in regional communities,\u201d Mayor Martin said.<\/p>\n

The commissioner\u2019s visit reinforced the importance of ensuring regional businesses have direct access to statewide support services.<\/p>\n
City of Mount Gambier CEO Paul Simpson said council played an active role in facilitating meaningful connections between local businesses and external support networks.<\/p>\n
