{"id":18478,"date":"2026-03-31T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/?p=18478"},"modified":"2026-03-25T16:01:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T05:01:59","slug":"seaside-skate-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mtgambiertimes\/news\/seaside-skate-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Seaside skate competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE District Council of Grant and YMCA are teaming up to host a skateboarding, scooter and BMX competition as part of Youth Week and the April school holidays.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held at the Port MacDonnell Skate Park on Sunday, April 12, from 11am to 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate, with Under 10s, Under 13s, Under 16s and open categories.<\/p>\n<p>Medals will be awarded to the top three competitors across each category and all participants are entered into a raffle draw.<\/p>\n<p>Community members are also welcome to attend as spectators for a day of fun and excitement.<\/p>\n<p>This event builds on the success of 2025\u2019s Learn to Skate and Scoot sessions held in Tarpeena and Port MacDonnell facilitated by Y Action Sports and demonstrates the enthusiasm of regional youth for the social, physical and wellbeing benefits of skate park culture.<\/p>\n<p>Manager of Y Action Sports Matthew Brett said Skate Park Leagues give people of all walks of life the opportunity to come together and use the council\u2019s facility in a positive and meaningful way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe inclusion and support we see at each event is amazing and a testament to the skate park communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is taking place during Youth Week, South Australia\u2019s largest annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25.<\/p>\n<p>The week aims to spotlight youth creativity and passion with a range of events and activities throughout the state.<\/p>\n<p>District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said this event was the perfect occasion to bring people together from across the district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for young people to showcase their skills, build new connections, and feel supported by their community, which is at the heart of Youth Week,\u201d Mayor Boston said.<\/p>\n<p>The competition forms part of YMCA\u2019s state-wide Skate Park Leagues and is delivered in partnership with AusCycling and Skate Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The event gives young skaters the opportunity to earn points towards the 2026 South Australian Regional Series League Ladder and a shot at the National Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is free and essential for participants.
