MOUNT Gambier\u2019s Albert Peters, a member of the SA Country 2026 Under 18 Boys team that competed in the National Championships in Brisbane this week, is definitely a talent on the rise.<\/p>\n
Peters is not just making his mark in representative basketball, but he has also just been signed by the Mount Gambier Pioneers.<\/p>\n
A product of the local basketball pathway, Peters has progressed through the Basketball Mount Gambier system, earning his opportunity at the NBL1 level through consistent development, dedication, and strong performances at the junior and representative levels.<\/p>\n
His signing highlights the strength of the Mount Gambier pathway, reinforcing the club\u2019s focus on providing opportunities for local athletes to develop and transition into senior competition.<\/p>\n
Peters brings energy, enthusiasm, and a strong understanding of the game, with his work ethic and willingness to learn making him an exciting addition to the Castec Rural Pioneers program as he takes the next step in his basketball journey.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s head coach Pete Godfrey spoke on the importance of rewarding local development and Peters\u2019 progression into the program.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlbert has been training with the NBL1 Men right through pre-season while balancing his junior and SA Under 18 State commitments,\u201d Godfrey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to his commitment and on-court performance, and with an eye to the Pioneers of the future, it makes perfect sense to formally embrace Albert as part of the 2026 group. I am looking forward to playing a part in Albert\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n
Peters said he was grateful for the opportunity to represent his hometown club at the NBL1 level.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m an incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be apart of the Mount Gambier Pioneers for the 2026 season,\u201d Peters said. \u201cRepresenting my home town has always been a dream of mine, and I\u2019m ready to keep learning and competing at the next level under Pete and Damien.<\/p>\n

Peters is clearly building on his impressive performances as a member of the 2025 SA Country Under 16 team, gaining his Under 18 state team selection for this year\u2019s national championships as a bottom age player.<\/p>\n
