THE City of Mount Gambier is inviting community feedback on a proposed extended lease arrangement for land on Grant Avenue, currently used and operated by the Blue Lake Golf Club.<\/p>\n

At the April 2026 council meeting, council endorsed a proposed lease structure as the basis for public consultation, in accordance with Section 202 of the Local Government Act 1999 (SA).<\/p>\n

The proposal relates to council owned and controlled community land currently leased to the Blue Lake Golf Club for recreational purposes, with the existing lease due to expire on 30 June 2026.<\/p>\n

Under the proposed arrangement, council is seeking feedback on a staged lease structure comprising an initial five year term, with three further five year renewal options, providing up to 20 years of tenure subject to performance, compliance and review.<\/p>\n

City of Mount Gambier manager governance and property Brittany Shelton said community consultation is a vital part of decision making when it comes to the future use of community land.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis land is a valued community asset, and it\u2019s important that any long term leasing arrangements are considered openly and transparently,\u201d Ms Shelton said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed lease structure aims to balance long term certainty for the Blue Lake Golf Club with appropriate governance, accountability and Council oversight, and we need to hear from the community before any final decisions are made.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Blue Lake Golf Club has developed a long term management plan that includes future investment in facilities and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Council recognises that a longer term lease may support planning, investment and eligibility for external grant funding, while still ensuring the land continues to be used for community benefit.<\/p>\n

As the proposed lease would exceed five years in total duration, council is required under legislation to undertake public consultation before progressing any agreement.<\/p>\n

Ms Shelton encouraged community members to review the proposal and provide feedback during the consultation period.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommunity input will help Council ensure the final lease reflects community expectations and delivers positive outcomes for both the club and the broader Mount Gambier community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The proposed lease documentation is also available to view at the Civic Centre, Watson Terrace Mount Gambier.<\/p>\n
