TEN young people recently came together to take part in a full-day songwriting workshop delivered by Glenelg Shire Council\u2019s Youth Team in partnership with Portland Arts Centre.<\/p>\n
Supported through State Government Amplify funding, the workshop created a welcoming space for young people to develop their musical skills, build confidence and connect with others who share a passion for music.<\/p>\n
Throughout the day, participants worked in small groups guided by local musicians Jess Cook, Jack Caithness, Hannah Donaldson and Brendon Skinner. The sessions focused on practical songwriting techniques, overcoming creative barriers and building confidence through collaboration and performance.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Karen Stephens said the workshop highlighted the importance of providing creative opportunities for young people to express themselves and develop their talents.<\/p>\n
\u201cCreative programs like this provide a valuable outlet for young people to share their voice, build confidence and connect with others in a supportive environment,\u201d Cr Stephens said. \u201cThrough initiatives supported by funding programs like Amplify, Council is proud to support a vibrant and inclusive local arts community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Participants were also introduced to the professional music equipment and creative spaces available at the Portland Arts Centre, encouraging continued engagement with the venue and the local music scene.<\/p>\n
Young people aged 12 to 25 who are interested in exploring music are encouraged to connect with Glenelg Shire Council\u2019s Youth Team or the Portland Arts Centre to learn more about upcoming opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
