THE City of Mount Gambier marked National Volunteer Week this week with a morning tea, bringing together volunteers from across the organisation to celebrate their contributions.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme, Your Year to Volunteer, recognises the dedication of those who already give their time while inviting people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement. Volunteering can be ongoing or occasional, hands\u2013on or behind the scenes – what matters most is the positive difference it makes for individuals, organisations and our community as a whole.<\/p>\n
Mayor Lynette Martin OAM presented certificates of appreciation to all attendees and was joined by Elected Members, CEO Paul Simpson and Council staff to acknowledge the contribution of more than 100 volunteers who actively support council operations.<\/p>\n
“From our Library and the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre to the ReUse Market, Youth Activation Group, Valley Lake Conservation Park and the many community events held throughout the year, volunteers play an essential role in what we do,” Mayor Martin said.<\/p>\n
“As Mayor, I have the unique opportunity to see the impact of the work of volunteers across the city, and I am deeply appreciative of what you achieve. Your skills, enthusiasm and generosity help us deliver services, share knowledge, protect our environment and celebrate our city.”<\/p>\n
“So to you, our wonderful volunteers – thank you for your time, commitment and community spirit. You make a lasting difference every day and play an essential role in helping our community thrive.”<\/p>\n
