MOUNT Gambier Library welcomed around 300 people for a vibrant Family Night after-hours event celebrating National Families Week, bringing together local families in a fun and inclusive environment.<\/p>\n
Supported by OneFortyOne, the event created an opportunity for families to connect and spend quality time together while enjoying a wide range of activities.<\/p>\n
Attendees took part in Minecraft, Lego, giant games, pool and table tennis, alongside contributions from Bunnings and other local businesses, offering something for all ages.<\/p>\n
Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said the strong attendance highlighted the importance of community focused initiatives.<\/p>\n
“Events like Family Night show that council is about so much more than rates, roads and rubbish, it is about creating opportunities for people to come together, connect and build a stronger, more inclusive community,” Mayor Martin said.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s wonderful to see our library come alive after hours, providing a safe and welcoming space where families can spend meaningful time together.”<\/p>\n
Library Team Leader Children\u2019s and Youth Services Erin Jones said the strong turnout highlighted the value of creating spaces for community connection.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was wonderful to see so many families not just taking part in the activities, but genuinely connecting with each other and meeting new people,\u201d Mrs Jones said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvents like this reinforce the important role the library plays as a welcoming, inclusive space and a place of connection for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Feedback from attendees reflected the positive impact of the evening, with families expressing appreciation for the opportunity to spend meaningful time together in a free, safe and child-friendly setting.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne parent described it as the most wonderful night and hoped we would offer similar events again,\u201d Mrs Jones said.<\/p>\n
The Library continues to provide regular free programs that support connection, learning and play for local families.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to offering accessible weekly children\u2019s programs for all ages,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage families to come along and explore what the library has to offer, whether it\u2019s our early literacy programs, after school clubs or simply spending time in the Children\u2019s Cave – Yulangu Kanipinan, or enjoying a game of pool or table tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n
