A disappointing home court double for the Castec Rural Supplies Mount Gambier Pioneers Men with two tough, tight losses.<\/p>\n
On Friday night, it was a 13 point loss to the Northern Force before an even more heartbreaking two point loss to Geelong United on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Ole Angerstein produced his most dominant performance of the season and the Northern Force took charge in the last quarter on Friday night to secure the 104-91.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers were trying to avoid a a third consecutive loss, welcoming Deng Deng and Cameron Brown to their line-up after the departure of Collin Moore during the King’s Birthday break.<\/p>\n
It was a tight battle with the Force leading by two points at quarter-time before Mount Gambier were up by two at the half, and then the visitors back in front by just one at three quarter-time.<\/p>\n
It was then all the Force in the fourth quarter with 32 points to 20 on the way to the eventual 13-point victory.<\/p>\n
Angerstein was at his imposing best in the win for the Force with 24 points, 11 rebounds and two steals with 10\/11 shooting from the field.<\/p>\n
For the home side, Deng Deng had 13 points and three rebounds in his first appearance for Mount Gambier while the other new face Brown had three points and a steal.<\/p>\n
Alex Mudronja top scored with another 27 points, five assists and three rebounds with Lucas Gordon adding 18 points, 12 boards, four blocks and three steals, Ngor Manyang 13 points and two rebounds, and Titus Robinson 10 points, five boards and four assists.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, it was two clutch free throws from Geelong\u2019s Lachlan Barker that separated the two sides as the visitors snatched a 77-75 away victory.<\/p>\n
Geelong started strongly with 25 points to 14 in the first quarter before leading by as much as 16 in the second term but Mount Gambier fired back in third term with 27 points to 15 to grab the lead.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers then found themselves up four early in the last but Geelong responded once more with a 10-0 run to go back up six and then hold on in the finish for the two-point victory.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers are now 5-10 after the double loss weekend with Ngor Manyang finishing with 16 points, three rebounds and two steals with Deng Deng adding 16 points, nine boards, three steals and two assists.<\/p>\n
Mudronja ended up with nine points, five rebounds and four assists, Lucas Gordon nine points and eight boards, Elijah Saifaleupolu eight points on 2\/2 three-point shooting, and Titus Robinson seven points and four rebounds.<\/p>\n
It was a much better weekend for the OneFortyOne Mount Gambier Pioneers Women, with an overtime victory on Friday and a comprehensive performance on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Grace Champion helped shoot the Mount Gambier Pioneers to overtime against the Northern Force on Friday night before Tilly Boler shot out of a slump to get them to a second extra period and they then dominated the last five minutes to secure the 109-90 win.<\/p>\n
This was the Pioneers second double overtime thriller at home already this season and the girls had to dig deep to overcome an 11-point deficit to the Force in the third quarter.<\/p>\n
Champion caught fire early in the fourth term to help Mount Gambier back into the game and then the Force still looked on track for a seventh straight win until Boler hit her first three of the game on an eighth attempt at the end of the first overtime.<\/p>\n
Then in the second extra period, it was all the Pioneers with 23 points to four over the last five minutes on the way to the 19-point victory to improve to an 8-6 record as a result.<\/p>\n
Champion ended up hitting 6\/11 from downtown on her way to 25 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Pioneers with Carla Pitman adding 20 points, seven boards, six steals and five assists on 8\/12 field goal shooting.<\/p>\n
Lara Edmanson also finished with 19 points, 21 rebounds and two blocks including eight of those boards coming at the offensive end with Abby Prohaska contributing 18 points, 13 boards, four assists and two steals, and Kelsey Rees 15 points and five rebounds.<\/p>\n
Sunday afternoon did not test the nerves anywhere near as much with a 93-66 demolition of Geelong.<\/p>\n
The home side got the jump early with a 10-0 run in the first quarter on the way to leading by as much as 16 points, and they turned that into the 50-29 advantage by half-time.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers continued to build on that through the second half with the lead as much as 29 points in the third quarter, and 33 in the fourth before they ended up winning by 27.<\/p>\n
The two home court wins at the weekend saw the Pioneers set up a 9-6 season record with Champion having another 21 points, four steals and three rebounds with 7\/12 field goal shooting and going 3\/7 from deep.<\/p>\n
Rees added 18 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, Boler 18 points on 3\/6 three-point shooting, Prohaska 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, Pitman 10 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds, and Edmanson seven points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
