A NEW neighbourhood play space is now open at Hayes Crescent Reserve, providing modern, safe and engaging facilities for families in Mount Gambier\u2019s growing north west area.<\/p>\n
The upgraded reserve has been completed as part of City of Mount Gambier\u2019s ongoing play space renewal program, transforming the site into a neighbourhood-level facility that better meets the needs of the local community.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment responds to significant population growth in the area, particularly among young people, ensuring access to high quality and well distributed play opportunities.<\/p>\n
New features of the upgraded reserve include a combination play structure while retaining the existing swing, upgraded fitness equipment and an extended multi-use court with a new goal.<\/p>\n
Visitors also have access to a barbecue, water fountain (to be connected by SA Water), picnic tables, additional seating, refreshed shelter, improved pathways and enhanced landscaping.<\/p>\n
City of Mount Gambier General Manager City Infrastructure Barbara Cernovskis said the completed project reflects Council\u2019s commitment to delivering contemporary and accessible recreation spaces.<\/p>\n
“This upgrade transforms Hayes Crescent Reserve into a vibrant and welcoming spot for local families, providing more opportunities for children and young people to be active and connect,” Ms Cernovskis said.<\/p>\n
“The north west of Mount Gambier continues to grow, and it is important that our open spaces evolve with the community to ensure residents have access to safe, modern and inclusive facilities.”<\/p>\n
The reserve had previously been identified as a high priority for renewal, with the existing play equipment nearing the end of its useful life after originally being installed as a second-hand donation approximately 12 years ago.<\/p>\n
The upgrade also supports broader strategic planning, following the removal of end-of-life playgrounds at nearby reserves and improving overall play provision across the north west catchment.<\/p>\n
Sustainability was a key focus of the project, with up to 90 per cent of materials from the previous equipment and softfall reused or recycled, reducing environmental impact while delivering a refreshed community asset.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
