A proud Scottish tradition is set to take centre stage on July 4 as Bell Studio of Highland Dancing hosts a ceilidh \u2013 time honoured Scottish social gathering that features Gaelic folk music, storytelling, and energetic group dancing.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s inaugural event is a fundraiser for the emerging studio, raising funds to host the Mount Gambier Highland Dancing Eisteddfod, as part of the suite of Backstage Incorporated\u2019s competitions, as well as bringing expert talent to the region to run workshops.<\/p>\n
Going forward, organisers are hopeful it will become a beloved community event, and tickets sales suggest it will garner the necessary support to morph from key fundraiser to just having fun.<\/p>\n
Studio principal Katie Edwards and some hard working parents have put together the family friendly event which will be hosted by renowned Sydney-based ceilidh caller Graeme McColgan \u2013 better known as \u2018The Scotsman\u2019.<\/p>\n
From regional community events up to national festivals, Graeme\u2019s performances resonate with a passion for storytelling and a deep connection to his homeland.<\/p>\n
His appearances at the Australian Celtic Festival, CelticFest QLD and nomination for FAA\u2019s People\u2019s Choice Award have solidified his status as a standout performer, earning him a devoted and growing following.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is just about everyone getting involved and having fun,\u201d Katie said. \u201cThe Scotsman guides you through all the different dances \u2013 you don\u2019t need to have any experience and it is for all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n
A ceilidh incorporates dances including the Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, Virginia Reel, Canadian Barndance, Military Two-Ste and Cumberland Square Eight.<\/p>\n
The July 4 event, which includes a two course meal of Scottish fare, is being hosted at the Limestone Pantry and will also see brief performances from the Bell Studio dancers, as well as the Blue Lake RSL Pipe Band, but the emphasis is very much on interaction.<\/p>\n
To assist in the fundraising there will also be a local produce raffle and lucky door prizes.<\/p>\n
