A REFRESHED vision to guide tourism across the Glenelg Shire over the next five years has been adopted by Council.<\/p>\n
Councillors last night endorsed the Glenelg Shire Tourism Strategy 2026\u20132031 at the June Council Meeting.<\/p>\n
Developed in partnership with community members and local industry stakeholders, the Strategy sets out a coordinated approach for Glenelg Shire to grow as a welcoming, distinctive and sustainable destination.<\/p>\n
The Strategy is built around five key focus areas:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Place, Nature and Cultural Experience<\/p>\n
\u2022 Sustainable Visitor Economy<\/p>\n
\u2022 Destination Awareness and Promotion<\/p>\n
\u2022 Industry and Community Partnerships<\/p>\n
\u2022 Access, Facilities and Visitor Readiness<\/p>\n
The draft Strategy was endorsed for community consultation in February 2026, with feedback gathered from community members, businesses and industry stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Feedback broadly supported the strategic direction and reinforced the relevance of the key themes identified through earlier engagement. It also highlighted the importance of addressing infrastructure challenges, as well as opportunities to strengthen destination promotion and local identity.<\/p>\n
Insights from the consultation process have been incorporated into the final Strategy, ensuring strong alignment with community priorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to sincerely thank every community member, business operator and industry partner who took the time to share their insights. Your input, whether through workshops, surveys or conversations, has been crucial in shaping this Strategy,\u201d said Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Karen Stephens.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heard clearly that our community sees real opportunities to grow our tourism brand and build on our year-round attractions, while also recognising the need to address key infrastructure challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Strategy is about ensuring we grow in the right way. Through the five focus areas, Council can direct its efforts to support our tourism industry and grow visitation across the Shire.\u201d<\/p>\n
