WINTER struck with force late Saturday morning, with many golfers sheltering in the clubhouse to see what would unfold at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.<\/p>\n
The early morning players were spared most of the bad weather and a number of players delayed their starting times with only 40 golfers being determined enough to complete their rounds.<\/p>\n
South East Pine Sales were the sponsor for the event, which saw no golfer beat their handicap.<\/p>\n
Best scores of the day went B Graders (10 \u2013 18) with a countback needed to split Daniel Arch (14) and Jack Jennings (14) with both signing for 36 points.<\/p>\n
Arch had 17 points on his outward nine and 19 points coming home, while Jennings had the reverse, with 19 points on the front and 17 on the back.<\/p>\n
They were the only players to play to their handicap.<\/p>\n
C Grade (19 \u2013 45) also required a countback to split Ian Ewart (20) and Alex Sims (19) finished on 35 points.<\/p>\n
Just like in B Grade both players had reversed scores for their respective nines with 19 on one nine and 16 on the other.<\/p>\n
A Grade (-9 \u2013 9) was the only grade that didn\u2019t require a countback with Michael Cutting (4) taking out the win with 35 points and Pat O\u2019Donnell (1) filling the runner-up spot with 33 points.<\/p>\n
A very low score of 26 or better on a countback was required to win one of the 23 additional balls and seven birdie balls were won.<\/p>\n
C Grade winner Ian Ewart (20) won the 5 balls for the Pro Shot on the eighth hole with Matthew Dixon (17) taking out the sixteenth.JULY 9 RESULTS<\/p>\n
Friendly weather conditions greeted the 93 golfers who took to the course for the Thursday Stableford competition, with a countback needed to split the two players topping the leaderboard.<\/p>\n
Nic Morony (17) posted the best score of the day with 40 points to win the $90 Pro shop voucher.<\/p>\n
On his way out, Morony (pictured) only had one minor hiccup with a double bogey on the seventh hole.<\/p>\n
The rest of his opening nine included threee bogies and five pars to turn with 22 points.<\/p>\n
His back nine was a little more of a roller coaster with two double bogeys, five bogeys, a par on the eighteenth and a birdie on the tough par 4 fourteenth to score another 18 points.<\/p>\n
A countback was needed to split Doug Mullen (24) and Barry Brook (16) who both finished one point behind Morony on 39 points.<\/p>\n
Mullen started on the tenth hole and after his back nine had 23 points even though he wiped the twelfth hole.<\/p>\n
The front nine saw Mullen add another 16 points which had him win the $45.00 Pro shop voucher.<\/p>\n
Brook also started well, scoring 22 points on the front nine before adding another 17 on his way home and won five balls.<\/p>\n
Charlie Winterfield (16) won four balls after retaining his good form of late to have 38 points, with Jack Jennings (13) three balls, Tim Kenny (6) two balls, Eben Beukes (30), Damian Smith (13), Tony McGregor (16) and Kym Sykes (20) all finishing with 37 points.<\/p>\n
To win one of the 13 additional balls a score of 34 points or better on a countback was needed, with eight players winning birdie balls on the par 3s.<\/p>\n
Nearest to the pin on the eighth hole went to Travis Holland (11) and Pat O\u2019Donnell (Scr) on the sixteenth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
