MINDA is proud to reflect on its season-long partnership with the Mount Gambier Pioneers, creating opportunities for people living with an intellectual disability to connect with the local community through the power of sport.<\/p>\n
During the current season, the partnership has delivered positive impacts both on and off the court for the people Minda supports.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers, who compete in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s NBL1 South competitions at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre, have been a cornerstone of the Limestone Coast community since 1988.<\/p>\n
Minda Regional Manager Limestone Coast Adam Creek said the partnership was a natural fit, with both organisations sharing a strong commitment to inclusion, connection and community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith crowds of more than 1000 people at home games, the Pioneers have enabled us to greater connect with the community and share more about Minda and the support we provide to those living with an intellectual disability,\u201d Mr Creek said.<\/p>\n
More importantly, the partnership has opened the door to meaningful experiences for the people Minda supports.<\/p>\n
\u201cHome games provide a welcoming and accessible environment where people can enjoy the atmosphere alongside their support workers and feel part of something bigger,\u201d Mr Creek said.<\/p>\n
As a direct result of the partnership, Minda now supports Tyne, enabling her to continue volunteering with the club and contributing to the game-day experience she loves.<\/p>\n
A dedicated Pioneers fan, Tyne sells raffle tickets, chats with players, and hands out customised lolly bags at training sessions. Her involvement has made her a valued part of the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough her involvement with the Pioneers, Tyne has built friendships, confidence and a strong sense of purpose,\u201d Mr Creek said.<\/p>\n
Pioneers Basketball Club President Tom Kosch said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating a more inclusive and connected community through sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis partnership is built on shared values of inclusion, opportunity and community. Together, we are creating an environment where everyone can belong, participate and thrive,\u201d Mr Kosch said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSport has a unique ability to bring people together, break down barriers and create meaningful connections, and this partnership is a strong example of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Creek said the collaboration has already delivered meaningful outcomes and will continue to strengthen inclusion and community participation.<\/p>\n
