THE Portland Yacht Club came alive with energy, applause and local talent last week as Glenelg Shire Council’s sold-out Live & Local event brought the community together to celebrate the creativity and achievements of young people from across the region.<\/p>\n
The event featured performances from emerging locals artists including HRP, Grace Rosalee, Matilda Andrews, Imy Rose, Jenna Charman, Sneeze, Concrete and Life of Tragedy.<\/p>\n
Matilda Andrews was awarded Soloist of the Night, while Sneeze took home the title of Band of the Night. Grace Rosalee and Imy Rose also received Encouragement Awards, donated by South West Coast Performing Arts, in recognition of their outstanding performances on the night.<\/p>\n
Behind the scenes, participants from Council\u2019s recent Life Hacks \u2013 Introduction to Hospitality program worked alongside South Side Pizza Co and Ciao Bella food vans to serve guests food and drinks throughout the evening, putting the skills they have developed through the Life Hacks program into practice.<\/p>\n
The event also showcased artistic talents, with works on display from Lazarus-Celyne, Paige McKay and Kyra Lea Martyn, adding colour and creativity to the venue.<\/p>\n
Glenelg Shire Youth Development Officers Melissa Smith and Meghan Bennett said event highlighted the depth of young talent across the Shire.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the first note to the final encore, the night was a true celebration of music, art, hospitality skills and community, giving young people the opportunity to showcase their talents and gain valuable life experience,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach act brought something unique to the stage, with original music, crowd favourites and unforgettable performances proving that Glenelg Shire is home to an exciting generation of emerging musicians.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvents like Live & Local are only possible because of the passion and courage of young people willing to step outside their comfort zones and share their talents with the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Smith and Ms Bennett extended their sincere thanks to key supporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Glenelg Shire Council Youth Team appreciate everyone who attended and helped create a sold-out event. The incredible support shown by families, friends and community members created an atmosphere that encouraged every performer and participant to shine,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you to the evening’s judges Brendan Skinner, Danielle Stearman and Paul Saunders, for supporting and encouraging the next generation of local performers. A thank you must also go to our youth MCs Clayton Cox and Marli Rose, who confidently guided the audience through the night’s program with humour, enthusiasm and professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n
