The Citizen of the Year Awards acknowledge the unsung heroes of our community who make our city a better place.<\/p>\n<p>City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM said if you know an individual, organisation, group or event that makes a real difference in our community, nominate them for a Citizen of the Year Award. \u201cWe have members of our community that quietly go about volunteering their time,\u201d Mayor Martin said. \u201cThese awards are an opportunity for us as a community to acknowledge them for their efforts and say thank you. Our community is stronger as a result of their commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community. The awards will be presented to the recipients at the City of Mount Gambier Australia Day Breakfast and Citizen of the Year Awards event on Friday, January 26, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcknowledging and celebrating our outstanding community members is a significant part of the Australia Day Breakfast event,\u201d Mayor Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations will be accepted until 5pm on Friday, November 17, and should be marked \u2018Citizen of Year 2024\u2019 and posted to City of Mount Gambier, PO Box 56, Mount Gambier SA 5290 or emailed to <a href=\"mailto:city@mountgambier.sa.gov.au\">city@mountgambier.sa.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nomination forms and guidelines are available from the Civic Centre, Mount Gambier Library, Mount Gambier Visitor Centre and the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre or online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For further information regarding award nominations, please contact Council on (08)8721 2555.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023 WINNERS: <\/strong>(Above) Community Event of the Year &#8211; Fantasy Medieval Fair &#038; Citizen of the Year &#8211; Graham Carter (with Mayor Lynette Martin)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two scholarships on offer from Community Bank Nominations for the 2024 City of Mount Gambier Citizen of the Year Awards are now open.
